Fort Myers, FL, 3rd April 2012; Global Premier Soccer (GPS) would like to announce the launch of the Florida Knights Soccer Club. The Knights will be based at the $75 million dollar JetBlue Park, which boasts six (6) new Bermuda grass soccer fields.
The official launch of the Florida Knights will be at a press conference held on Tuesday 3rd April at 3pm at JetBlue Park.
The Florida Knights are an affiliate of Florida Premier Soccer (FPS) (www.floridapremsoccer.com), which was launched in the summer of 2010, bringing an innovative full time, professional soccer organization to the state of Florida. FPS is partnered with other leading clubs in Florida such as FC America of Orlando and Ponte Vedra SC of Jacksonville.
“The launch of the Florida Knights brings a new and exciting professional youth soccer program to the Fort Myers community,” said FPS General Manager Alan Hough. “The multi-million dollar Jet Blue Complex provides a world class soccer facility which will be the base of operations for our coaching staff to deliver age appropriate, structured programs.”
In partnership with North Fort Myers Knights Soccer Club, FPS will create a new model for a premier club infrastructure by providing full time coaches, superior administrative support, a full time Technical Department and a comprehensive college placement program. The Knights will provide an integrated player development pathway for players aged 3-18 years old and will strive to become the leading player development program in Southwest Florida.
Commencing in fall 2012, Florida Knights will roll out programs which include 1st Touch Soccer (3-4 years old), School of Excellence (U6-U12), Junior Premier (U8-U12), Premier (U11-U12) & Elite (U13-U18) These programs will complement existing recreational and competitive programs conducted by North Fort Myers Soccer Club.
As well as the partnership with North Fort Myers Knights, FPS/Florida Knights are excited to have also partnered with Gateway Soccer Association & Sanibel Soccer.
FPS has secured the services of John Robinson as Technical Director of the Knights. John, a Fort Myers resident for four years, brings a wealth of experience as a former professional player in the English Premier League and a National Team player for Wales. “At the Florida Knights, players will be placed in an integrated system from an early age with a clear development pathway aimed at maximizing the development of each individual within the club,” said John. “We will be recognized for our commitment to professionalism and development “
The Knights will also manage and run Tournaments at JetBlue Park with the following events scheduled for 2012; Soccerween (October, 2012), FPS Fantasy Festival (October / November, 2012) and FPS Labor Day Junior Tournament (September, 2012).
GPS entity Massachusetts Premier Soccer is the largest club in New England with over 2,000 players within the club. The MA franchise is complemented by sister organizations in Maine, Florida, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island and New Jersey.
GPS has successfully developed a host of showcase tournaments including the largest weekend tournament in the US held over Memorial Day in Massachusetts, which is now over 800 teams. Over the next 3 years, the Florida Knights expect to establish JetBlue Park as a national location for tournaments that will translate to a significant impact on the local economy.
